Al-Sisi heads to Sudan on two-day visit on Thursday

Leaders of both countries are scheduled to hold a joint summit

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi heads to Sudan on a two-day visit on Thursday, which marks his first visit to Sudan in his second presidential term, said Sudanese Ambassador to Egypt Abdel Mahmoud Abdel Halim in a press statement.

Al-Sisi will meet with Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir and will hold a joint summit with the attendance of the ministers of foreign affairs, irrigation, and electricity.

The Sudanese-Egyptian summit will exchange views on latest developments in the region and other issues of common concern.

Water topics and updates of the negotiations of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will come on the forefront of the summit’s agenda.

The visit comes after the visit of Al-Bashir to Cairo before Egypt’s presidential election that took place in March. Several visits and meetings have taken place between the two presidents, during the recent period.

Regarding the significance of the visit, Abdel Halim said that the visit is important in timing and content, and it comes within the framework of continuous communication between the leaders of the two countries.

The visit also reflects the vitality and specificity of the relations between the two countries and their peoples, he concluded.
